Floor stripping is a labor-intensive job and should only be done when needed.

A proper scrub and re-coat technique continue to be one of the critical methods for extending the life of finished floors. The process of scrub and re-coat is a well-known process of removing the top 1 or 2 coats of finish to prepare the floor for additional layers. If these dirt embedded topcoats are not removed, the soil becomes locked into the finish creating a shabby, dirty look to the floor area. This process uses a more aggressive pad and a stronger cleaner to help suspend abraded finish for easy pick-up. The method using the Surface Prep Pad from 3M™ is more abrasive, thereby removing more finish. Remember, however, removing too much finish (beyond two coats) is wasteful and will require more added layers to achieve the necessary protection and gloss.

Today we can remove top coats better. I am stripping without chemicals and saving baseboards doors and walls from damage from chemicals.
